Apple is going through major changes—literally. The company is reportedly experimenting with a new form factor—foldable. Its current CEO, Tim Cook, is stepping down in September, and an AI-powered Siri is coming later this year, probably in June when Apple is scheduled to host its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Yes, the news is confirmed. While Apple is still working on the upcoming Siri, Google has confirmed that it will be powered by its Gemini AI models, which will also power future Apple Intelligence features. Google Cloud chief Thomas Kurian mentioned the Apple partnership during Google Cloud Next 2026, a conference taking place in Las Vegas.
“Earlier this year, we announced a monumental partnership with one of the most iconic brands that will bring the power of our technology to users everywhere around the world. We're collaborating with Apple as their preferred cloud provider to develop the next generation of Apple Foundation Models based on Gemini technology,” Kurian said.
“These models will now power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri coming later this year,” he added.
However, Kurian did not delve into further details on upcoming Siri’s features. But, John Ternus, the incoming CEO who will replace Tim Cook in September, has said the company has an “incredible roadmap,” as reported by Bloomberg.
The report added that the Cupertino giant was going to release new products, with a key focus on AI. Ternus said, “This is the most exciting time to be building products and services at Apple in my entire career—with AI at the center.”
Siri delays and expected launch
The AI-powered Siri has missed its launch timeline many times previously. Apple first delayed the smarter Siri in March 2025 and said it would launch “in the coming year.” Later in 2025, Apple said that Siri would get an update at some point in 2026, though it did not provide a specific launch timeline.
Opening Siri to third-party AI
Meanwhile, an earlier report by Bloomberg suggested that Apple plans to open its Siri voice assistant to artificial intelligence services beyond its current partnership with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The report says Apple could allow third-party AI apps to integrate directly with Siri.
This would enable users to route their queries to services such as Alphabet’s Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude directly from within the assistant.
A potential revenue play
The Bloomberg report also suggests that the move could be part of Apple’s broader strategy to generate additional revenue. According to the report, Apple may take a share of subscriptions sold through third-party AI services that integrate with Siri.
The feature is reportedly expected to arrive with the iOS 27 update. However, Apple has not officially revealed the capabilities of the revamped Siri yet.
