The Philadelphia Phillies have made plenty of memorable trade deadline additions in recent years, but few made a quicker impact than Harrison Bader during the club's 2025 postseason push, even if his run ended in a disappointing injury before he was really needed during a key playoff series.

Although Bader’s time in Philadelphia lasted only a few months, fans will recall that he was the team’s hopeful outfield solution just one year before the Phillies are looking to bring in yet another potential solution at the upcoming trade deadline. And now, shortly after leaving the Phillies in free agency, Bader is back in headlines for an entirely different reason.

Former Philadelphia Phillies Outfielder’s Latest Scooter Accident Ends Difficult San Francisco Giants Season

Though Bader was on a hot streak to begin his Phillies tenure, his run ended in disappointment after a poorly timed injury.

“Bader provided a boost both offensively and defensively, while bringing energy to the clubhouse and dugout,” Todd Zolecki wrote for MLB.com. “But Bader suffered a leg injury in Game 1 of the NLDS against the (Los Angeles) Dodgers, keeping him out of the starting lineup the rest of the series.”

Bader has a lengthy injury history that might have made the trade to acquire him an ill advised one. And shortly after leaving the Phillies to join the San Francisco Giants this season, he was sidelined with a foot injury.

Now Bader is going viral as he reportedly exacerbated that injury in a confounding scooter accident.

"San Francisco Giants player Harrison Bader allegedly rammed his scooter into the back of a fire truck early Sunday morning … an accident that further injured his foot and solidified the end of his season,” TMZ reported. “Bader — who inked a two-year, $20 million deal with the Giants before the season — is no stranger to two-wheeled mishaps ... he was suspended 19 games at the University of Florida in 2014 after he allegedly crashed a scooter into a parked car."

The Giants have confirmed that Bader suffered additional injury to the same foot that had already sidelined him and manager Tony Vitello said the setback is expected to keep him from returning this season. Meanwhile, local reporting indicates the accident occurred in San Francisco during the early morning hours and further complicated an already lengthy rehabilitation process.

“Additionally, witnesses tell me Bader was seen drinking at bars in San Francisco hours before the accident, in different neighborhoods,” CBS Sports’ Matt Lively reported. “He was leaving Balboa Cafe when he was injured on the scooter around 2 a.m.”

For Phillies fans, the news serves as a reminder of how impactful Bader was in his brief stay with the organization and how much the team could have used them in their disappointing series against the Dodgers.

Bader’s postseason injury last year proved to be an unfortunate ending to what could have been a franchise-changing stint in Philadelphia. But after parlaying that brief performance into a multiyear deal with the Giants, his lengthy injury history and questionable decision making around scooters have reemerged.

And now the Giants have indicated that they won’t pay him until he can prove he’s healthy again.

“The San Francisco Giants, as expected, say that Harrison Bader violated his contract and will no longer pay him until he can return to health after his late night scooter accident,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported. “Bader is being paid $10 million and still is owed $10 million next year.”

For Phillies fans who remember Bader’s energetic two-month run in red pinstripes, it's an unfortunate update for a player who briefly appeared to be the team’s long-awaited trade deadline solution for the outfield.
