As part of mitigating rain-related calamities, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has opened 34 relief camps in Kozhikode district. There are now 515 persons, including women and children, staying in these camps as part of the relief measures initiated with the support of the local administrators and the Revenue Department.

According to Revenue department officials, 186 families have been temporarily shifted to the relief shelters opened in Vadakara, Thamarassery, Koyilandy and Kozhikode taluks. There are 185 men, 215 women and 115 children in these camps, they said.

Arrangements are also in place to ensure emergency medical care for the camp members. The support of various voluntary organisations has also been ensured to meet the needs of the camp members.

“Though rainfall was moderate in the urban and rural areas on Sunday, the vigil would be continued in the wake of the rough weather alert. All taluk-level and village-level rescue squads were given instructions to stay alert,” said a senior Revenue Department official from Vadakara taluk. He said more families would be evacuated from various landslide-prone zones in the upland areas following the instructions of the DDMA.

Following the adverse weather conditions, all the international kayaking events scheduled for Sunday (August 2, 2026) as part of the Malabar River Festival were also cancelled. An order issued by District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty on Sunday (August 2) put a temporary ban on all training sessions and competitions until further notice due to the rising water levels in the Iruvazhinji and Chalipuzha rivers. The entry of public and participants to the riverbanks was also prohibited citing safety issues.
