The train arrives on time

The board said two minutes, and it meant two minutes. I tapped in without slowing down, the gate knew me, and the train slid in cold and bright, stopping exactly where the markings said it would. Somewhere between stations I realized I had not experienced a single moment of uncertainty since leaving my desk. Not one.

This is the product working. Decades of design and infrastructure converging on a promise: fast, reachable, reliable, certain. The promise is kept, daily, at scale. The experience layer of modern life has become astonishingly good at what it does.

Then I looked at the people in the carriage, and at my own reflection in the dark window, and a thought arrived that I could not put down. Everything around us has changed, and the person inside all of it has not. The same fragility. The same boredom rushing to be filled. The same low hum underneath the day that no amount of arrival certainty touches. We built an environment of near-perfect answers around a person whose real questions were never submitted.
