The Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary G. Eswaraiah has demanded the immediate withdrawal of Government Order (G.O.) No. 102 relating to admissions to medical courses, alleging that the new policy would adversely affect students belonging to reserved categories.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Mr. Eswaraiah said the G.O., issued on July 30, 2026, would create confusion in admissions to MBBS and other courses conducted through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) under the aegis of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences. He alleged that the order was contrary to directions issued by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in a case relating to medical admissions and reservation policy.

Recalling developments in 2019, Mr. Eswaraiah said students from reserved categories had approached the High Court, alleging irregularities in the admission process and loss of opportunities owing to the counselling system then in force.

He said the court had subsequently directed the government to constitute a six-member expert committee to ensure transparency in admissions and safeguard the spirit of the reservation policy. Based on the panel’s recommendations, the government issued G.O. Ms. No. 151 in December 2020, which has since governed the admission process.

Mr. Eswaraiah said no complaints had been received regarding the implementation of G.O. Ms. No. 151 over the past several years. He contended that the existing system enabled students from reserved categories who secured higher ranks to obtain seats under the open category while ensuring that reservation benefits were available to other eligible candidates.

Alleging that the newly issued G.O. No. 102 would undermine this arrangement, Mr. Eswaraiah said it would result in eligible candidates being allotted seats under reserved categories even when they qualified under the open category, thereby reducing opportunities for other students. He urged the government to withdraw G.O. No. 102 immediately and continue implementing G.O. Ms. No. 151 to ensure fairness and protect the interests of students from all categories.
