Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has assured Nigerians that no ongoing federal infrastructure project will be abandoned under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Umahi gave the assurance at the weekend during an inspection of federal road projects in Ebonyi State, where he said the Tinubu administration remains committed to completing strategic infrastructure across the country to stimulate economic growth and improve connectivity.

According to the minister, the ongoing road projects have created thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities while boosting economic activities in host communities.

He urged the people of the South-East to acknowledge what he described as the President’s commitment to the region rather than focusing solely on criticism of the administration.

“The President means well for the country. The ongoing infrastructure projects are creating jobs through road construction, reinforcement works, project yards, and business opportunities for suppliers of construction materials, as well as traders operating along the project corridors,” Umahi said.

The minister explained that the adoption of reinforced concrete pavement technology would ensure greater durability of roads while stimulating growth in the local cement industry through increased demand.

He noted that although it would be impossible to address every national challenge within three years, the administration had made significant progress in infrastructure development and deserved the support and patience of Nigerians.

Umahi also highlighted what he described as unprecedented federal investments in the South-East, arguing that the region has benefited considerably from the Tinubu administration.

Commenting on the country’s political landscape, the minister criticised the support base of Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, alleging that some of his supporters attack dissenting voices.

He argued that electoral success in a presidential election requires broad national support beyond any single region.

Speaking on the ongoing road project, Umahi disclosed that about 30 per cent of Section One, covering approximately 125 kilometres and traversing two local government areas in Ebonyi State, has been completed, adding that the project has opened up communities for commerce and development.

He called on residents of the South-East to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general election, saying the administration had demonstrated its commitment to the development of the region.

The minister further maintained that funds borrowed by the Federal Government were being invested in critical infrastructure rather than recurrent expenditure such as salaries or the purchase of official vehicles.

He also disclosed that mobilisation had commenced on Section Two of the project, spanning about 168 kilometres across parts of Ebonyi, Enugu and Kogi states, including the Oweto Bridge corridor.

According to him, the project will further enhance regional integration, improve transportation, and promote economic development across the South-East and adjoining regions.
