Ex-Zamboanga del Norte lawmaker Romeo Jalosjos Sr. dies at 85
PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – Former Zamboanga del Norte 1st District Rep. Romeo “Nonong” Garcia Jalosjos Sr. died on Sunday at the age of 85.
His son, former Zamboanga del Norte 1st District Rep. and former Dapitan City Mayor Seth Frederick Pal Jalosjos, announced his father’s passing in a social media post on Sunday evening.
“It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our beloved father,” the younger Jalosjos wrote.
He described their patriarch as a “distinguished media man, statesman, visionary, and pioneer, who dedicated his life to serving others with courage, compassion, and purpose.”
Jalosjos was remembered by his family as a leader “who listened, a champion of the underserved, and a father to his people.”
Beyond politics, the family said, he was “a source of strength and wisdom to his children, whose lives were shaped by his generosity and resilience.”
“While we grieve his passing, we also celebrate a life lived with extraordinary purpose,” the family statement read.
“His legacy cannot be measured by the offices he held or the accomplishments he achieved, but by the countless lives he touched, the hope he gave, and the enduring impact of his kindness and service.”
The Jalosjos family extended gratitude to those who have offered prayers and condolences, saying the outpouring of compassion has given them strength during this difficult time.
Wake and viewing schedules have been set in two locations: The Heritage Park in Taguig City from August 3 to 5, and the Gloria de Dapitan Complex in Dapitan City from August 6 to 12.
“Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that his remarkable life will continue to inspire generations to come. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten,” the family said.
His cause of death was not made known by the family.
