Jeremie Frimpong sparked more defensive injury fears for Liverpool after he was substituted late into their dismal 4-2 pre-season collapse against Leeds in Chicago.
The right-back asked to be replaced 13 minutes from time of their defeat at Soldier Field, which saw Andoni Iraola suffer his first defeat as Reds manager.
It comes after Joe Gomez suffered a muscle injury in the first match of their USA tour, a 4-2 win over Sunderland, which has ruled him out for the start of the Premier League season.
Iraola therefore cannot afford any more fitness problems in defence and is hopeful that his withdrawal was just a precaution, citing Frimpong’s issue as nothing more than “overload”.
"Jeremie asked for the sub, [but] I don't think it's an injury. It was just some overload and I hope he's not injured in that way. I don't think we've lost anyone" the Reds boss told LFCTV.
Liverpool threw away a 2-0 half-time lead against their Premier League rivals, having taken control through goals from Luke Chambers and Florian Wirtz - the latter of which was making his first pre-season appearance since returning from the World Cup, alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Alexander Isak.
Brenden Aaronson halved the deficit with half an hour to play before Leeds flipped the contest on its head with two goals in the space of two minutes courtesy of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Sean Longstaff.
Calvert-Lewin then added his second in the 85th minute to complete Leeds’ comeback, with Iraola taking lessons from the bruising capitulation.
"We learned a lot of things," Iraola added. "It's not the result we wanted, but the most useful friendly we've played. In a positive way in the first half, a negative way in the second half.
"We learned a lot and I think we can take good conclusions and solve some things."
Liverpool have two more Anfield friendlies against Monaco and Como in the diary before kicking off the season away to Newcastle on 23 August.
