Five men have been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in her 30s at home in Ipswich.

Police launched an investigation after a woman was allegedly attacked in a house where there were reports of a 'serious sexual assault'.

The alleged attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

Five men, aged 27, 31, 35, 44 and 49, were arrested and are currently in custody for questioning.

The woman is now being supported by specialist trained officers, Suffolk police said.

A crime scene is currently in place at Curriers Lane in Ipswich – where the attack took place.

Police said there would be an increased presence on the road as the force continues to investigate the attack.

Officers urged anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Brett said: 'I understand the concern this may cause the local community and would like to assure the public that our teams have been working tirelessly since the incident was reported to us.

'A scene remains in place on Curriers Lane and there is currently an increased police presence in the area as we conduct our enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

'We encourage the public to speak with officers if you have any concerns or information.'
