Emma Raducanu will miss the US Open as she continues to recover from the stress fracture which forced her to pull out of Wimbledon on the eve of the Championships.

It is a continuation of the British No1's dreadful run of injury and illness and - given the Open is the final Grand Slam of the year - her season is in danger of petering out.

The 23-year-old has been in St Moritz, Switzerland, from where she posted a video of herself practicing serves - with the significant caveat that she was still wearing a protective boot on her right leg.

And Daily Mail Sport understands that after her latest medical checks, the British No1 has been advised that the injury needs more time to heal and so she will be unable to contest the final Grand Slam of the season.

This latest issue is a continuation of a theme - since she won the US Open Raducanu has rarely been able to stay fit for a sustained period.

The lower-leg stress fracture - which first came to light when she was spotted leaving the All England Club in a protective boot in the week before Wimbledon - came on the back of a viral illness which laid her low for much of February through until May.

Emma Raducanu is set to miss the US Open later this month as her injury woes continue

The British No 1 had earlier shared a photo of her practicing in an orthopedic boot on Monday

Raducanu has been spending some of her rehab time in the high luxury of the Suvretta House hotel.

Opened in 1912 in the mountains of St Moritz, rooms can cost up to £2,500 a night.

The five-star hotel has a picturesque clay tennis court - upon which, it appears, Raducanu was unable to do much more than serving off one leg.

British tennis fans who follow and support Raducanu are used to disappointment but this recent run of illness and injury is particularly maddening given how well she has played during her brief periods of health.

In Cluj, Romania, and at the Queen's Club this year she made her first finals since the US Open title in 2021.

And her promising reunion with Andrew Richardson, the man who coached her to that miraculous Grand Slam title, is stuck in the starting blocks.

As ever, Raducanu's talent and athletic ability mean she is still capable of great things if she can stay fit. The problem is, with each passing year that 'if' becomes ever bigger.
