A school van carrying students was attacked with stones allegedly by a group of youth who were part of the Kanwar Yatra, at Charak Crossing in the Chowk police station limits in Lucknow on Monday (August 3, 2026). The Lucknow Police booked three unidentified individuals after the incident. The police have not confirmed their identity and a search is on to trace them.

In his complaint, Amir, the driver of the van, alleged that a group of youth riding motorcycles had thrown stones at the vecicle and also threatened to kill him before fleeing. The case has been registered under Sections 131 (attack on another person without any reason) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“At Charak Crossing under Chowk police station today morning, three unidentified people vandalised a school van. On getting information, the police reached the spot but they had fled by then. A case has been registered and strict action will be taken against the guilty,” said Kamlesh Kumar Dixit Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).

Uproar erupted on social media over videos that showed the vehicle’s windows shattered and schoolgirls crying on the street, accompanied by their parents. “Shravan is a holy month for the people of Sanatana, but under the grab of Kanwariyas, some anti-social elements try to fuel unrest and create division in the society on communal lines. Strict action must be taken against culprits. The fact is such elements are being tactically nurtured by a section of the ruling dispensation for political gains. In the case of Uttar Pradesh, lawless anarchy is continuing and such an incident in the heart of the State is an example of it,” said Anil Yadav, a senior U.P. Congress leader.
