Trump says ‘any country with windmills is a loser’ in latest attack on wind power
Donald Trump declared any country that uses wind turbines a “loser” in his latest attack against wind power.
Speaking from the Oval Office on Monday (3 August), the US president said: “Any country with windmills is a loser... because you lose money on windmills.”
The US accounts for 14% of the world's wind energy capacity, second only to China, which has 70%.
The US president has previously labelled wind turbines as “monstrosities” and complained about their impact on tourism. In 2012, he lost a legal battle over 11 turbines that were to be constructed alongside his Aberdeenshire golf course.
Wind turbines are used by 166 countries and areas, according to data from Global Wind Power Tracker.
