Motorists are experiencing heavy traffic around the Anthony Village Bus Stop along Funsho Williams Avenue following the commencement of rehabilitation work on the damaged service lane.

The ongoing repairs have disrupted traffic flow along the busy corridor connecting Fadeyi, Gbagada, Oshodi and Ikorodu Road, with excavation and construction activities slowing vehicular movement in the area.

The Anthony Village service lane has long been a source of congestion due to persistent potholes and repeated deterioration despite previous repair efforts.

Construction equipment, including graders and rollers, have been deployed to the site, while pedestrians have been urged to exercise caution as sections of the walkway have been affected by the ongoing works.

Announcing the development in a statement on Monday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, appealed to residents and road users to be patient throughout the rehabilitation period.

He explained that earlier repairs carried out with asphalt had repeatedly failed because of the impact of heavy rainfall, prompting the state government to adopt a more durable approach.

“This road has been bad for a while, exacerbated by the constant rains in Lagos.

“The government has been repairing this road with asphalt, and whenever the rains come, it gets damaged again until the next cycle.

“So, the government has decided to put a more permanent solution in place,” he said.

Osiyemi disclosed that the rehabilitation would involve laying interlocking stones instead of asphalt, noting that contractors had been directed to work continuously to ensure completion within four days, provided weather conditions remain favourable.

He acknowledged that the project would temporarily inconvenience commuters but expressed confidence that it would provide a long-term solution to the recurring road damage.

The commissioner advised motorists to plan their trips in advance, monitor traffic updates and make use of alternative routes throughout the construction period.

Under the traffic management plan, motorists travelling from Fadeyi towards Gbagada and the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway have been advised to avoid the Anthony connection and instead use the Pedro route.

Drivers who normally access the service lane have also been urged to remain on the main carriageway before connecting at the appropriate point, while commuters heading towards Oshodi, Anthony and Ikorodu Road are encouraged to explore alternative inner-city routes.

The state government warned that traffic delays, particularly during rush hours, are expected while the work is ongoing and advised commuters to leave earlier than usual or rely on navigation applications for real-time traffic information.

The rehabilitation project is expected to be completed within three to four days, although the timeline may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and the pace of construction.
