The call for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign after Spain won the 2026 World Cup over Argentina has attracted mixed reactions.

Recall that LaLiga President, Javier Tebas, had urged Infantino to resign following the conclusion of the 2026 tournament which Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final.

Tebas criticized FIFA’s management of the World Cup, especially the implementation of hydration breaks and the musical performance during the final in New Jersey.

The 63-year-old also referenced the United States striker Folarin Balogun incident as an example of Infantino’s mismanagement of the federation, insisting that it necessitates his resignation.

When asked if Infantino should quit, Tebas said (via La Gazzetta dello Sport),  “In my opinion, yes, I think his time is up.”

However, Tebas’ call for Infantino to resign his position has triggered mixed reactions on social media.

While some backed Tebas, others admitted it would be difficult for Infantino to resign.

Here are some reactions gathered by DAILY POST on X:

@TesfazghiYibrah, “I totally agree. The man has to be removed. He is more of a politician rather than a sportsman.”
