The Kuruppampady police have booked a Plus Two student of a school at Keezhillam near Perumbavoor in connection with an alleged ragging incident that took place on Thursday.

The police registered the case on Tuesday after identifying that one among the nearly 15 students involved in the alleged incident was above 18.

Police sources said the accused teen had been booked for assault and unlawful assembly. “Provisions under the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act will be invoked if a report from the school confirms the offence,” an officer said.

The case stems from a complaint that a 16-year-old Plus One student of the school was ragged and assaulted inside the restroom of the school by a group of students including his seniors.

Initially, the police did not register a first information report as all the teenagers involved in the incident were said to be minors. The police had filed a social background report before the Juvenile Justice Board.
