Madurai Railway Division dispatched first consignment of 100 electric cars of VinFast from Thoothukudi to Haryana on Monday.

The cars were transported by an NMG rake comprising 25 wagons from V.O. Chidambaranar Port Marshalling Yard in Thoothukudi to Ballabhgarh, Haryana.

This inaugural movement generated a freight revenue of ₹22.07 lakh for Madurai Division. This marks the successful induction of a new automobile freight stream into the Division’s traffic basket by the Business Development unit of Madurai Railway division in association with CJ-DARCL Logistics, the logistics partner of the automobile manufacturer, a statement said.

The company has indicated an initial commitment to load around 10 NMG rakes every month from Thoothukudi, with the potential for further growth in line with increased production. This is expected to result in a steady addition to the Division’s automobile freight traffic and make a meaningful contribution to its freight earnings.

The successful commencement of VinFast’s automobile traffic underscores Madurai Division’s customer-centric approach and its commitment to providing reliable, cost-effective and sustainable rail logistics solutions for the automobile industry. The achievement also highlights the Division’s continued focus on expanding its freight portfolio by forging partnerships with emerging industries and logistics providers, the statement said.
