Relentless rainfall under the ongoing red alert in Uttarakhand has severely disrupted normal life, with fresh damage reported from several parts of the state. In a major development, cracks have appeared on the Dehradun-Mussoorie Road near the Pani Wala Band stretch, prompting authorities to shut the route for vehicular movement until further orders.

The decision was taken as a precautionary measure after the highway developed visible cracks due to continuous heavy rainfall, raising concerns over the stability of the road. Officials have suspended traffic on the affected stretch to prevent any untoward incidents.

Earlier, traffic had been regulated through a single lane to ensure safe movement. However, after assessing the condition of the damaged road, the administration imposed a complete restriction on vehicular movement until further notice.

Continuous rainfall has increased the risk of landslides, road subsidence and falling rocks across the hill districts of Uttarakhand. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents and tourists to avoid non-essential travel.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state and advised people to strictly follow weather advisories and instructions issued by the local administration.
