Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) announced that the State government will introduce a ‘Super Clean, Super Campus’ scheme, under which daily cleaning, maintenance of drinking water facilities and toilets, and round-the-clock security will be ensured on 10,000 school campuses in the first phase with an allocation of ₹139 crore.

Presenting the Revised Budget for 2026-27 in the Legislative Assembly, he said the State government will provide modern branded bicycles equipped with helmets and water bottles to around 5.32 lakh Class XI students in government and government-aided schools during the current academic year, at a cost of ₹277 crore.

To modernise government schools, the State government will launch the ‘Palli Niraivu Thittam’, covering 3,734 schools, including 2,514 primary schools, 365 middle schools, and 855 high and higher secondary schools at a cost of ₹2,132 crore. For this year, an allocation of ₹300 crore has been made, Mr. Wilson said.

To provide quality education to academically talented students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the government will establish ‘Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Schools of Excellence’ as modern residential schools for Classes IX to XII, offering free education, food, boarding, textbooks, and uniforms. A total of ₹125 crore has been allocated for infrastructure development under this scheme, the Finance Minister said.

The State government will revise the School Education curriculum to make it experiential, inquiry-based, holistic, competency-driven, and future-ready, with emphasis on critical thinking, creativity, financial literacy, gender equality, environmental awareness, digital competence, competitive examinations, and global citizenship. An allocation of ₹25 crore has been made for curriculum revision, Mr. Wilson said.

Anti-Drug Clubs

As part of its commitment to a drug-free Tamil Nadu, the government will establish Anti-Drug Clubs and student volunteer groups in schools. The ‘10581’ helpline number will be displayed on all school campuses, and the ‘Drug-Free Tamil Nadu’ mobile application will enable students and teachers to confidentially report drug trafficking and substance abuse. An amount of ₹7 crore has been allocated for the initiative, he said.

The State government will also redesign public libraries into Statewide digital learning and innovation hubs with digital knowledge resources, universal membership, 24x7 internet and mobile access, digital content, free Wi-Fi, and co-working spaces across the 38 district central libraries. A total of ₹10 crore has been allocated for this initiative, he said.

A total of ₹44,527 crore has been allocated for the School Education Department.
