Members of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) staged a protest in front of the tahsildar’s office in Hosapete on Wednesday (July 22) condemning the alleged police excesses against students protesting in New Delhi over irregularities in the NEET-UG examination.

Following the demonstration, the protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India through the tahsildar.

AIDSO Vijayanagara district president Ravikiran J.P. alleged that students staging a peaceful protest in New Delhi against the exam irregularities had been subjected to lathi-charge, tear gas and other coercive measures by the Delhi police.

He alleged that lakhs of students from poor and middle-class families were being forced to spend heavily on coaching while the examination system had become vulnerable to corruption and paper leaks. He claimed that the National Testing Agency (NTA) had repeatedly failed to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.

Mr. Ravikiran demanded action against those responsible for the alleged assault on protesting students in New Delhi, abolition of the NTA and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him morally responsible for the alleged irregularities.

The protest was presided over by AIDSO district secretary U. Umadevi. Students, including Vaishnavi, Syed Sameer, Meenakshi, Nirmala Srinivas, Huligemma and Vidyashree, besides representatives of various colleges, participated in the demonstration.
