A total of seven policemen who were injured during the arrest of Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday are undergoing treatment in the Government Royapettah Hospital.
A senior official of the city police said the DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested by a team from Thanjavur police on Tuesday, and a large number of DMK cadres, who had assembled outside his house in Neelankarai, had reportedly assaulted a number of police personnel deployed for security duty.
The seven police officials who were injured in the assault included Sub Inspectors Dharmadurai and Kuppan, Head Constables Bhaskar and Maruthammal, and three constables Narsin, Monica, and Ayyanpandi. The affected police personnel are undergoing continuous treatment, the police official added.
The Government Royapettah Hospital police have filed a case and are investigating.
