NTU vice-president Kuan Jimmy Hsia leaves Singapore for new Chinese university

AAAS fellow who held senior roles at University of Illinois and Carnegie Mellon brings decades of cross-disciplinary leadership

The career of Kuan Jimmy Hsia, a prominent researcher in interdisciplinary mechanics, has long spanned two worlds – he is a laser-focused scientist and a skilled administrator who unites fields and stakeholders.

A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Hsia has published more than 100 papers and made substantial contributions in the fields of high-temperature deformation, micro/nano mechanics and biomaterials.

Now, the professor who combines the talents of an accomplished scientist and formidable manager is back in China.

Last Friday, the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) in Ningbo in China’s eastern Zhejiang province announced that Hsia had joined the university full-time.

Hsia said he joined for the opportunity to build a new system.
