WASHINGTON, August 6. /TASS/. Iranian authorities have warned Gulf countries that they will carry out retaliatory strikes against energy facilities on their territory if the US attacks the Islamic Republic, Reuters reported, citing sources in the Persian Gulf.
"The Iranian warning was unequivocal: if America targeted Iran’s infrastructure, they would retaliate by striking Gulf energy facilities and other regional targets," one Gulf source said.
According to Reuters, such steps are aimed at exerting additional pressure on the US through its allies to reach a peace agreement acceptable to Iran. Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington was continuing consultations with Tehran and expected an agreement to be reached soon.
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, the US resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
