Nothing is literally doubling down on its smartphone ambitions, contrary to previous report

  • Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis has revealed that the company may launch twice as many phones in 2027 as it did this year.
  • The executive also reiterated that the US market is a “major priority” for Nothing in the audio segment.
  • Nothing seems to have more products planned for launch this quarter, though Evangelidis didn’t specify if they were phones or other devices.

Nothing has largely succeeded in capturing the tech industry’s imagination despite being a relatively new entrant. Following the Phone 1, the company has released multiple flagships, including the Phone 4a Pro earlier this year. We’re now getting an early glimpse of the company’s ambitious plans for 2027, even as the tech world struggles with the RAM crisis.

In an interview with Times Now Tech, Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis revealed the company plans to launch twice as many phones in 2027 as it did this year. If our math is accurate, this could potentially mean the release of up to six Nothing devices next year. For reference, Nothing has released three smartphones in 2026, including the vanilla Phone 4a, the Phone 4a Pro, and the Phone 4b. “We’ll share more details closer to launch, but the idea is to have a wider range of smartphones,” Evangelidis said.

The Nothing exec was less optimistic about the future of CMF phones, saying the company is keeping an eye on the market. This comes on the heels of the manufacturer shelving the CMF Phone 3 Pro due to a historic uptick in memory prices.

“Even this year, we pulled off the plug quite late. We’re looking at different ways on how we could make it happen for next year. But that’s still in consideration. We’re staying close to how the memory price will evolve,” he told the publication. At the same time, he added that the “plans are pretty much set” to double the number of Nothing devices in 2027, indicating a big shift in the company’s smartphone strategy.

It’s worth pointing out that the co-founder’s words contradict last week’s report that the company would pivot to an AI-first strategy with the launch of a new smartwatch, earbuds, headphones, and speakers. However, Nothing hasn’t commented on this report yet, with Evangelidis only saying in the interview that the company now has “dedicated business units for audio and AI-native products.”

We’re also getting confirmation that the manufacturer has more devices in the pipeline for Q3. However, the exec didn’t specify whether they are phones, smartwatches, audio products, or some of those AI-first products mentioned in the recent report. While reiterating the company’s focus on markets like India, Evangelidis said the US also remains a “major priority,” especially in the headphones and earbuds segment.
