House resolution honors SB19 for global achievements

Several members of the House of Representatives filed a resolution that commends and congratulates P-pop supergroup SB19 after their historic Lollapalooza debut and appointment as Philippine tourism ambassador.

House members Javi Benitez, Nelson Legacion, Sarah Jane Elago, and Kathryn Joyce Gorriceta co-authored and submitted House Resolution No. 1280 on Monday, Aug. 3, which recognizes the Filipino quintet for their “historic cultural achievement.”

Cited in the resolution are the group’s recently assumed role as Philippine tourism ambassadors; their performance as well as their attire that embedded elements that paid tribute to Filipino culture at the Chicago-based music festival; and group member Josh’s ceremonial first pitch at the Major League Baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees.

“SB19’s immense international reach has directly catalyzed a surge in music tourism, inspiring returning overseas Filipinos, many of whom have not visited the Philippines in years, as well as international fans to travel to the country to witness their concerts live on home soil, thereby generating significant economic activity, increasing hotel occupancy, and boosting national tourism,” a part of the proposal reads.

“Through their uncompromising commitment to write and perform Filipino music, SB19 has inspired thousands of foreign fans across Asia, North America, Europe, and beyond to learn the Filipino language and deeply appreciate Philippine traditions, heritage, and values,” it further says.

Earlier this month, SB19—composed of Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken and Justin—was also commended through a Senate resolution filed by Sen. Bam Aquino. /edv
