All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mangalagiri, Executive Director Ahanthem Santa Singh inaugurated a Burns and Plastic Surgery Block on the campus on Thursday.
The block is expected to strengthen specialised burn care by providing facilities for acute burn management, multidisciplinary critical care, and comprehensive rehabilitation.
Addressing the media, Prof. Ahanthem Santa Singh said the institute has now become a fully functional 970-bed tertiary care hospital, with 43 clinical and non-clinical departments.
He said the institute has substantially expanded its critical care capacity. Against a sanctioned strength of 50 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, AIIMS-Mangalagiri has operationalised 118 ICU beds. Emergency services have also been strengthened, with bed capacity increasing from 30 to 60, including 10 dedicated Emergency ICU beds, enabling faster and more comprehensive emergency care. The institute is also set to commission an advanced 256-slice CT scanner shortly, he said.
Medical Superintendent Rajashekar Mohan, Dean (Academics) Desu Rama Mohan, and others were present in the inaugural ceremony.
