The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly’s Scheduled Tribes Welfare Committee has directed officials to address deficiencies identified during a three-day tour of the Agency areas, its Chairperson Miriyala Sirisha Devi said on Thursday.

Speaking to media after a review meeting with departmental officials at the Visakhapatnam Collectorate, Ms. Sirisha Devi said the panel, comprising members Perabattula Rajasekharam and Nimmaka Jayakrishna, had inspected government hospitals and tribal welfare schools in Polavaram district’s Rampachodavaram constituency, besides Araku, Paderu and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts.

Officials had been instructed to resolve the shortcomings within three to four months, ahead of a follow-up visit, she said.

The committee reviewed implementation of reservation quotas, roster points and postings for Scheduled Tribes across departments, and directed authorities to sanction houses for eligible landless tribal families and extend benefits of the PM Surya Ghar scheme. It also called for employment units for tribal youth through the District Rural Development Agency. Visakhapatnam district has over 22,000 tribal residents, she noted.

The panel also visited the Tribal Welfare Gurukul school at Marikavalasa, where members had lunch with students and reviewed food quality and academic standards. A detailed report would be submitted to the Assembly Speaker and the State government, Ms. Sirisha Devi said.
