DC Studios needs a bit of a pick-me-up after the box office and critical disappointment of Supergirl and, based on this new trailer, director James Watkins’ Clayface might just be the ticket. The movie’s first official trailer doesn’t lean quite as heavily into the body horror of its harrowing teaser, but it’s still pretty unsettling. And yes, that haunting version of The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize??” still underscores the whole thing.
The film’s official logline reads, “Matt Hagenâs meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime bossâs actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self⦠but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.”
Clayface stars Tom Rhys Harries (The Gentlemen) as Matt Hagen, Naomi Ackie (Mickey 17) as Dr. Caitlin Corr, and Max Minghella (The Handmaid’s Tale) as John Pearlman. It’s direct by James Watkins from a script by horror master Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. It opens in theaters on October 23.
