Floodwaters submerged parts of Benguet’s strawberry farm

BAGUIO CITY — Continuous rains battered Benguet, causing floodwaters to submerge areas of the famous Strawberry Farm in the capital town of La Trinidad.

The popular tourist spot was left under knee-deep water, which disrupted local activities and impacted nearby shops and businesses.

As part of its response, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Benguet Chapter roamed the stretch of berry farms and the diversion road of the Benguet AgriPinoy Trading Center to monitor the impacts of the flood on community health.

The humanitarian organization also reminded residents to remain alert, avoid crossing flooded roads, and monitor official weather advisories.

By Friday, conditions had significantly improved, with floodwaters receding. Several stalls and shops also resumed operations.

Local authorities have yet to release an estimate of the damage caused by the flooding.

Meanwhile, the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (MPS) urged residents to monitor official weather bulletins and immediately report flooding, rising creek water levels, and other potential hazards to the appropriate authorities. Maureen Matayew/Contributor/coa
