Bangkok has emerged as the most favourite choice in a Cathay Pacific Airways survey, which also placed Shenzhen as the favoured destination for long weekends.

The Thai capital was voted by Cathay members in an annual survey as their all-time favourite destination for long-haul and short-haul travels.

"Flavour-packed street food, world-class hospitality, electric nightlife, first-rate fine dining and some of the best shopping on Earth – Bangkok has it all, plus character in abundance," the Hong Kong-based airline said in the recently released results.

Other short-listed cities were London, Sydney and Tokyo.

Cathay asked its members in the annual online survey to vote for their favourite destinations, hotels, restaurants among other categories. The airline has 13 million members.

Shenzhen won the long-weekend destination contest, beating Hanoi, Seoul and Taipei, because the Chinese city offered a variety of attractions for vacationers.

"Shenzhen offers everything from galleries, spas and bars to ancient villages and green spaces, meaning visitors can cover a lot of ground in just a short trip," it said.
