YouTube TV subscribers are starting to get access to their latest free perk

• In the fallout from last year’s Disney/YouTube TV spat, subscribers were promised free ESPN Unlimited.
• YTTV users are now starting to be notified about the arrival of their ESPN Unlimited perks.
• Initial access is through the ESPN app, with YTTV streaming arriving later.

Last fall, Google and Disney found themselves butting heads over YouTube TV carriage agreements, with subscribers temporarily losing access to multiple ABC, ESPN, and National Geographic channels. It was embarrassing to see the corporate spat played out in public like it was, with YTTV subscribers effectively turned into bargaining chips. When they inevitably sorted things out, viewers were issued a credit, and Google announced a new deal that would, among things, bring a new ESPN offering to YTTV. And now, the better part of a year later, that’s finally happening.

We just got this email notifying us of ESPN Unlimited arriving for YouTube TV accounts:

As you can see, while access is getting started separately from YouTube TV through ESPN’s own app, live content in YouTube TV isn’t arriving until a little later on.

Looking around the internet, we see Cord Cutters confirming that these notices have been going out for a bit over a week at this point. Google appears to be rolling them out little by little, so if you still haven’t seen anything yet, your email could still be on the way.

ESPN Unlimited is priced as a $30/month stand-alone subscription, making this look like a decent value — for viewers interested in sports, anyway. If that doesn’t include you, YouTube TV thankfully introduced new bundle packages earlier this year that give subscribers a lot more control over the channels they receive — and lets them avoid subsidizing content they don’t want.
