Deworming tablets will be distributed to 2.06 crore children and adolescents aged one to 19 years and 52.44 lakh women aged 20 to 30 years on August 10. Special camps to distribute the tablets will be held at 54,481 anganwadis, 11,723 health sub-centres, and 56,483 schools.

Every year, special camps are conducted by the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Government of Tamil Nadu, in February and August to distribute deworming tablets in connection with National Deworming Day. Accordingly, special camps for distribution of deworming tablets will be conducted throughout the State from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 10. This will be followed by special camps on August 17 to cover those who were left out, the Health Department said in a press release.

Children aged one to two years will receive half a tablet (200 mg), while children and adolescents aged two to 19 years, and women aged 20 to 30 years will get one tablet (400 mg) at these camps. The Albendazole tablets are safe and eliminate intestinal worms and help prevent anaemia and nutritional deficiencies, the release said.

A total of 54,481 anganwadi workers, 59,700 school and college teachers, 6,543 doctors, 12,456 village health nurses, and 2,650 accredited social health activists will be involved in the special camps. The department requested all parents to make use of the camps and ensure that their children are protected from intestinal worm infections, the release said.
