Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Shashikant Tiwari filed a police complaint alleging unidentified men attacked him and vandalised his vehicle in Gauriganj in Amethi, suspecting local MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh orchestrated it following a Facebook dispute over Singh's alleged remarks about Brahmins.

The Gauriganj MLA declined to comment on the allegations. He said police should conduct an impartial investigation and take strict action against whoever is found responsible.

According to the complaint submitted at Gauriganj Police Station, the incident occurred on Saturday evening (August 8, 2026) near Jamo turn, where three unidentified men riding a motorcycle allegedly attacked and damaged senior BSP leader Tiwari's vehicle.

Mr. Tiwari, whose wife Ragini Tiwari contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from the Amethi seat as a BSP candidate, said he had recently responded on Facebook to remarks Singh allegedly made concerning Brahmins.

He expressed suspicion that the attack could have been carried out at the MLA's behest.

Gauriganj inspector Ravi Singh said an FIR had been registered against three unidentified persons in connection with the incident.

"Investigation is underway, and the attackers will be arrested soon," he said.
