The husband of Princess Beatrice has dismissed rumours of a 'troubled marriage' by sharing a sweet tribute to the royal on her birthday.

Edo Mapelli Mozzi took to social media on Saturday to affirm his love for his 'phenomenal, beautiful' wife as she turned 38.

He accompanied his warm words with a series of intimate selfies dedicated to Beatrice.

Edo, a British property developer descended from Italian nobility, said: 'Happy Birthday to my phenomenal, beautiful wife. We love you so much. You make our world.'

The post, uploaded to Instagram, was signed off 'Love E,W,S,A xxxx' with three hearts and Beatrice's birth date – 8.8.88.

The letters refer to him, Beatrice's stepson Wolfie, 10, and daughters Sienna, four, and one-year-old Athena.

Last week royal author Andrew Lownie told the Daily Mail Beatrice's birthday would 'not be an easy one' amid speculation of her 'marriage troubles' and the ensuing fallout of her parents' controversial ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

New revelations about her father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's friendship with Epstein are said to have allegedly forced a 'distance' between Beatrice and her husband in recent months.

And the scandalous details of her parents' connection to the late paedophile financier have also brought Beatrice herself under renewed public scrutiny – with questions raised surrounding the princess's finances.

'Much has changed for the York family since Beatrice's last birthday,' Mr Lownie, writer of best-selling book Entitled: The Rise And Fall Of The House Of York, said.

'Her father remains under, in effect, house arrest in Norfolk with the possibility of being charged with sharing confidential information, her mother probably still in hiding abroad.

'The publication of my book Entitled and Virginia Giuffre's memoir Nobody's Girl, the release of damning material about the family from Jeffrey Epstein's papers, the de-princing of her father and his eviction from Royal Lodge and questions raised over the daughters' subsidised accommodation at St James's Palace and Kensington Palace though not working royals.'

Beatrice and Edo wed in 2020 and they have two daughters, Sienna and Athena.

Mr Lownie added while Beatrice's previous birthdays have been filled with extravagant parties and pricey gifts, this year the princess would undoubtedly be scaling back on the celebrations.

He noted that alongside speculation surrounding her six-year marriage, uncertainty remains over just 'how far the Princess may still be using her royal status to promote her career'.

In contrast to this year's more modest affair, Beatrice's 18th birthday was one of the royal events of the decade – with a £10,000 dress flown in from New York, 500 guests dancing until 3am in the ancient grounds of Windsor Castle and an overall cost estimated at £400,000.

With the late Queen Elizabeth II footing the bill, no expense was spared in what was an elaborately Victorian-themed coming-of-age party that will always be remembered for its extravagance.

'The Victorian theme was chosen because Beatrice was born at 8.18pm on August 8, 1988. Guests included Harvey Weinstein, Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein,' Mr Lownie added.

In her younger years, a Hello! spread for her second birthday raised a remarkable £2million.

'The following year, there was a three-hour fancy dress party,' noted Mr Lownie, while 'her 28th was spent with friends in the Hamptons'.

It comes as The Mail on Sunday today revealed Andrew is due to receive a royal ceremonial funeral – despite his dramatic downfall and being stripped of all his titles.

Senior Whitehall sources revealed the former Duke of York remains on a secret government list of royals who will receive high-profile funerals, even though he became a private citizen following revelations of his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

It is understood the controversial arrangement is part of the Government's so-called 'bridge' plans, which lay out – far in advance and in meticulous detail – the funeral arrangements for members of the Royal Family.

Queen Elizabeth's funeral in 2022 followed a blueprint known as 'Operation London Bridge', while Prince Philip's was 'Operation Forth Bridge' – after the bridge close to the Scottish capital.

Although the details of the arrangements for Mountbatten-Windsor's funeral are unknown, royal experts believe a service would be held at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, where the funerals of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were held.

The 14th-century chapel also serves as the venue for baptisms and royal weddings, including that of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2018.

It is anticipated that Mountbatten-Windsor would be buried at the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore, a 33-acre private cemetery in Home Park, Windsor.

Others buried there include King Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne in disgrace in 1936 to marry American socialite Wallis Simpson, who is also buried there.

It is not expected that the plan for 66-year-old Mountbatten-Windsor, which is overseen by the Cabinet Office and kept under constant review, will be required for some time, given that he appears to be in good health.
