One of Netflix’s biggest sleeper shows has returned, My Life with the Walter Boys, attempting to fill the void that The Summer I Turned Pretty may have left in some hearts after that series ended on Amazon.
But My Life with the Walter Boys has been around a while as well by now, and we have just arrived at season 3. The Rotten Tomatoes review score is in from a handful of critics, and it is…genuinely surprising, a perfect 100%.
This is an enormous step up from the last two seasons, though it continues a positive trajectory.

This is one of those series where there is a mismatch between viewership and critical coverage. While there are not many reviews in for the show’s third season, that was also true of the other two, despite it being a top-watched Netflix series. Season 3 of My Life with the Walter Boys debuted at #1 on Netflix’s top 10 list and is set to hold there a while.
The series, as you might guess, is based on a book, a Wattpad novel in 2014 written by Ali Novak. It’s only one book, but now the show has gone three seasons, and it’s unclear how long it might continue. Here’s the synopsis if you’re not familiar:
“When a tragedy disrupts her life, a teenager moves in with her guardian's big family in a small town and learns lessons about love, hope and friendship.”
Season 3 showing up as a hit is certainly in part because it has been less than a year since season 2, a rare speedy delivery in a streaming era that often makes fans wait years for new installments. And how about season 4? Will these big numbers mean a likely renewal? No, because the show was already renewed for season 4 even before season 3 arrived. Netflix loves this thing.

- Digital Mafia – “What I’ve always loved about this show is that, despite being a teen drama with such a silly premise on the outside (barring the dead family, that is in no way silly), none of the characters are flat, and season 3 continues to prove this.”
So, a strong start for My Life with the Walter Boys, and hopefully that will continue on into season 4 as well.
