The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Ministry of Power, is set to launch a Smart LED Street Lighting Project in Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) to accelerate energy efficiency and promote sustainable urban development.

The project, to be implemented in partnership with the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department, will introduce an Individual Light Monitoring (ILM) network integrated with a centralised control and monitoring system across all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the State, according to an official release.

Preparations for the launch were reviewed by S. Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary, MA&UD, at a virtual meeting on August 8 with P. Sampath Kumar, Commissioner of MA&UD and Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA), S. Nagalakshmi, Managing Director of A.P. Genco and A.P.-SEEDCO, and Akhilesh Kumar Dixit, CEO of EESL.

The EESL will sign a tripartite agreement with the CDMA for implementing the Integrated Smart LED Street Lighting Project across all 123 ULBs in the State.

Under the project, nearly 10.50 lakh street lights will be replaced with ILM-enabled smart LED street lights integrated with a centralised monitoring platform. The initial phase will cover 7.50 lakh lights, with another three lakh lights included under the extended scope.

The initiative is envisaged as the next generation of the Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP), combining intelligent lighting controls, real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance and digital asset management. It is expected to improve energy efficiency and public services while reducing long-term operational costs.
