MANILA, Philippines — Nine in every 10 Filipinos who have access to the internet use Facebook as their source of news, according to Pulse Asia’s latest survey on internet and social media use in the Philippines.

The survey, conducted from June 28 to July 6, found that 97 percent of respondents use the internet to read, watch or listen to the news regarding government and politics.

Although slightly down from 94 percent in March, the latest poll found that 91 percent said they use Facebook as a news source. It was followed by YouTube with 61 percent, down from 63 percent.

Twenty-one percent said they access news using TikTok, down from 23 percent, while nine percent cited vlogs as among their news sources, down from 10 percent.

Only five percent of the respondents directly access news through news websites.

The survey found that almost all Filipino internet users – 99 percent – have Facebook accounts, while 73 percent said they have YouTube (up from 70 percent).

There was also a seven-point increase among Filipinos with TikTok accounts, from 35 percent to 42 percent, while Instagram and X users hardly changed (from 18 percent to 17 percent and five percent to six percent, respectively).

All respondents who have internet access said they use it to check their social media accounts, while 97 percent said they use it to read, watch or listen to news regarding government and politics.

Ninety-one percent said they use the internet to read, watch or listen to other things of interest, like movies, recipes and celebrity news.
