The toll from floods in Assam has risen to 100, with two deaths reported in the past 24 hours, the state disaster management authority said on Sunday.

Almost 1.4 lakh persons have been affected by the floods in 10 districts: Golaghat, Sivasagar, Hojai, Darrang, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Charaideo, Nagaon and Biswanath.

Golaghat is the worst hit, with around 70,000 people affected, followed by Sivasagar with nearly 40,000 and Jorhat with more than 16,000.

The Dhansiri river at Golaghat and Numaligarh, and the Kushiyara river at Sribhumi, are flowing above the danger mark.

“Due to a steady rise in the water level of Dhansiri in Golaghat district, people have been advised to stay away from the river,” PTI quoted an unidentified official of the disaster management authority as saying.

Nearly 49,100 people are staying in 125 relief camps and relief distribution centres in six districts, the news agency reported.
