A mix-up between defenders Ryan Flamingo and Armando Obispo allowed Ole Romeny to sneak in and give Fortuna a first-half lead.

Flamingo made amends by heading in an equaliser early in the second half before Noah Fernandez put PSV in front in the 74th minute. But in injury time substitute Édouard Michut hit a fierce shot into the top corner to claim a point for the visitors.

Peter Bosz’s side were missing several key players, including new signing Kodai Sano, the injured Jerdy Schouten and the suspended duo Joey Veerman and Sergiño Dest.

“We’re not in top form, you saw that today,” the coach said afterwards. “In the first half especially we didn’t defend well.”

Derby win for Feyenoord

Feyenoord narrowly won the first Rotterdam derby of the season at Sparta in Giovanni van Bronkhorst’s first game since returning as manager, but only after the home side had two goals disallowed in injury time.

Milan Zonneveld was clearly offside on the first occasion, but the second decision was more contentious as the striker was penalised for nudging a defender just before he headed the ball past Tjark Ernst.

Luciano Valente scored the only goal in the 34th minute, drilling in a pullback from Gjivai Zechiël, who has returned to De Kuip after a loan spell at Utrecht.

Ajax laboured to a 2-0 win against PEC Zwolle, but only after the visitors had Sherel Floranus sent off early in the second half for a heavy tackle on Lucas Rosa.

Ajax had German duo Marc-André ter Stegen and Julian Brandt in the starting line-up, but not Belgian forward Mika Godts, who has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Godts, who said later he was suffering from a hamstring niggle, came on straight after the red card and laid on the second goal for Brandt in the closing minutes.

The breakthrough came from another Belgian substitute, Jordy Mokio, with the assist from new loan signing Tolu Arokodare.

Excelsior top table

Excelsior top the Eredivisie after the opening day after they kicked off the season with a thumping 4-0 win at newly promoted Cambuur Leeuwarden. Captain Noah Naujoks scored twice while Irakli Yegozian and David Garden, signed from amateur club Quick Boys, bagged the others.

Telstar’s Patrick Brouwer scored the fastest goal of the season, netting after just 27 seconds en route to a 2-1 win at NEC, who will need to regroup fast ahead of their Champions League second leg knock-out match against Olympiakos in midweek.

Twente also suffered a post-European hangover as they lost 1-0 at Heerenveen, Luca Oyen scoring with a near-post finish in the 52nd minute.

Goals from Brynjólfur Willumsson and Thom van Bergen earned Groningen a comfortable opening-day win against FC Utrecht, who replied with a late Adrian Blake strike in former Telstar coach Anthony Correia’s first match in charge.

Calvin Stengs marked his return to Alkmaar with the second goal in a 2-0 win for AZ against newcomers ADO Den Haag, while Go Ahead Eagles came back from 1-0 down to beat Willem II, the other promoted side, 4-1.
