Adam Ramsay-Peaty’s estranged brother is hoping a police investigation into alleged harassment of the champion swimmer will be dropped after a key witness, their sister, withdrew her witness statement, a family source has revealed.

James Peaty has faced the possibility of charges hanging over him for the past nine months which has been a ‘desperately worrying time for him,’ the insider told the Daily Mail.

But now it is anticipated he will be granted No Further Action (NFA) when he is due to answer bail tomorrow.

James was arrested in November last year a day after Adam returned home from his stag weekend in the Hungarian capital of Budapest amidst a huge police escort.

The builder, who was once very close to his famous younger brother and even lived with him for a spell whilst he was helping renovate his house in Kegworth, Leicestershire, fell out amidst the bitter family feud Adam and their mother Caroline have been embroiled in.

James, 34, from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, was arrested by his local force after Adam, now 31, received an alleged barrage of threatening texts and claimed he feared for his safety.

He told his partner Holly Ramsay - then his fiancee and now his wife - and her concerned mother Tana then alerted her police officer daughter.

James, a married father-of-two, was questioned over two days before being released on conditional bail.

A source close to the warring siblings told this week that James - known as Jamie - had been informed by his lawyer that they understand the investigation will be shelved due to lack of evidence.

The insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: ‘Bethany had seen the supposed texts on Jamie’s phone. It was an older brother spouting off to his younger one, there was no harm meant and no threat.

‘Bethany later shared them with Holly. At the time she had been so taken in by Adam’s celebrity new lifestyle, it was a glimpse of a world she wanted too, and would do anything to please.'

Mum-of-two Bethany was the only member of the Peaty family to attend Adam’s high-profile wedding to celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and wife Tana’s daughter Holly in December at Bath Abbey.

Bethany, who is expecting a new baby a month after Adam’s and Holly's first child is due, was also a guest at Holly’s lavish hen night, alongside Victoria Beckham, a close Ramsay friend.

As previously reported by this newspaper, Bethany then fell out with her mother and brother Jamie, then later made up with her mum and subsequently had a row with Holly, which is thought to still be ongoing.

The family source said; ‘Our main concern for the time being is Jamie. He has had the threat of charges hanging over his head since last November.

‘It has been a desperately worrying time for him and his wife Charlotte, and very hurtful and distressing for our family.'

‘The CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) don’t appear to have enough evidence for police to bring any charge.

‘Yes, he was arrested, but in our opinion by an over zealous police force, acting after a celebrity family with a police officer amidst them, was drawn into it.

‘Now we are hearing that the investigation is very likely to be dropped.

‘Bethany had given a witness statement supporting Adam but has since withdrawn it, just last week.

‘She was a key witness in any intended prosecution but without her evidence there appears to be no charge to be set and no case.'

The family insider told how ‘devastated’ Jamie had been on his shock arrest, insisting: ‘He is absolutely no threat and this has been a terrible time for our family.

‘Jamie has been devastated by his arrest and wouldn’t harm a fly and Adam knows that.

’The majority of texts didn’t bother Adam.'

James suffers from mental health issues and the debilitating condition ADHD.

The source said: 'He is under a psychologist for ADHD and post trauma severe depression.

'He lost a child which broke his heart.

'He had asked Adam to attend the funeral for some moral and emotional support but his brother let him down, saying he had a social to attend as Holly had invited his to a friend’s wedding, and insisted they had to be there.

‘It seems that fired a rift between the two brothers which has escalated into a full family row.'

The source suggests that Holly’s elder police officer sister Megan had advised Adam to take precautionary measures after he allegedly felt threatened by verbal threats and concerns he could be assaulted by his brother when he got back to the UK.

The swimmer was granted a large police escort at Manchester Airport on the night of November 10 last year after flying back home from his stag do, which had been attended by chef Gordon and Bethany’s fiancé Dan Rogerson.

Five officers met the star when he disembarked and escorted him through passport control.

The insider added: ‘James was arrested a day later and taken into custody without having any of his meds (medication) with him.

‘It was such a shock. He would never harm or intentionally threaten his brother. He is absolutely no threat.

’The boys have always been close, and Jamie, who is builder, even helped Adam renovate his house.

’They’ve always got on, but Adam has changed with his new celebrity lifestyle and family.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police previously told the Daily Mail: 'We arrested a 34-year-old man, from the Uttoxeter area, on 11 November 2025, on suspicion of harassment.

'The man was released on conditional bail while our enquiries continue.’

They added this week: ’The investigation is ongoing and the man arrested remains on conditional bail.’

Adam’s father Mark previously said: ‘They’re brothers. They’ve always been close but like any normal family, brothers fight, argue, fall out, make-up and start all over again. But it’s got out of hand.

'There’s been very little empathy towards Jamie’s genuine mental health difficulties.’

The source added: 'The reality is that Adam sees his mum Caroline to be enabling his brother’s actions rather than pushing him to deal with his demons.

'Poor Caroline has felt utterly torn. She was disinvited from Adam and Holly’s wedding and banned from Adam’s life.

Following his brother’s arrest Adam reassured his fans that there were two sides to every story and insisted he only has good intentions.

It follows claims that he had changed since meeting Holly and becoming part of the Ramsay clan, distancing himself from his working class roots.

He said at the time: 'Bethany, Holly and myself cannot go into detail given an ongoing police investigation into serious matters that arose long before recent events.

'For those who know me personally, you know that I work so hard on trying to improve myself as a person who wants to contribute to making the world a better place.

'I am continuing to learn about myself and how I can be the man I want to be; a worthy partner, father, businessman, friend and athlete; even through these challenging times.

'Bethany, Holly and I will get through this - we do not ask for sympathy. We just need people to be aware that there are always two sides to every story.

'To those of you who have reached out and shown kindness and understanding - thank you. It is deeply appreciated.’

Speaking to The Guardian after competing in the Commonwealth Games where the swimmer failed to win gold but bagged two individual bronze medals and a team silver, he said his religion meant there is a prospect of forgiveness.

But Adam, who embraced Christianity in 2023, insisted he would only reconcile with his family if he ‘feels they have improved as people.’

When asked if he would heal the rift, he said: ‘For me, as a Christian, there has to be forgiveness. It doesn't mean you have to forget, but forgiveness takes time.

‘I’m not saying that it won't get better, but it has to come from a place where I feel like they’ve improved as people, in a sense, and opened that communication up.'

Adam’s failure to win gold at the Games in Glasgow saw hm break down in tears in post interviews - in which he partly blamed his family for his poor performance, saying that the fallout ‘had taken its toll’ during training.

Family members are now pleading with Adam to heal the rift with his estranged mum with a source saying: ‘Please don’t hurt her any more.’

The insider said: ‘Adam blaming his family for his failure at the Commonwealth Games is not right. Our message is ‘Come home and talk to your mother. You know your mum will forgive you, Please don't hurt her any more.’
