51-year-old charged with making death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney

Threats came in an email to a senator, police said

Canada's federal police force said Monday that they've arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly making death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Marc Porlier, of Montreal, was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, an RCMP news release said.

The alleged threats were made in an email sent to a number of unnamed individuals, including a senator, the police said in the news release.

Porlier appeared in court on Saturday, the news release said. The charges haven't been proven in court.
