WASHINGTON, August 10. /TASS/. Todd Blanche has been sworn in as the US attorney general, White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said on X.

Earlier, the Senate confirmed Blanche’s nomination to the post of head of the US Department of Justice by a minimal majority vote. Blanche has been serving as acting head of the department since April; in June, President Donald Trump decided to appoint him to this position on a permanent basis.

A number of Republican senators on the Senate Judiciary Committee previously opposed Blanche’s confirmation. They demanded written assurances from the Washington administration that it did not plan to create a $1.8 billion fund to pay people, who, according to Trump, said they had been the subject of government abuse under Joe Biden. Many lawmakers considered such spending of taxpayers’ funds to be inappropriate. Last week, Blanche agreed to guarantee that he would not establish the fund.
