Kedron Brook will be upgraded with new footpaths, bikeways and lighting as part of a multimillion-dollar plan to reshape the waterway and its surroundings.

The draft plan, revealed by the Brisbane City Council on Tuesday, also includes new toilets, drinking fountains, sports hubs and upgraded creek crossings.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner called for residents to come forward with their own ideas for the brook, which runs through 14 of Brisbane’s northern suburbs before flowing into Moreton Bay.

He said at least $85 million would be spent over the next 20 years.

“We’re putting serious money behind this,” Schrinner told reporters along the waterway in Stafford.

“We know this is a much-loved part of Brisbane, this is part of people’s daily life.”

Other ideas included in the draft plan – based on a round of consultation done in 2025 – included improved flood resilience, more trees and additional environmental protections.

It notes businesses could be encouraged to face paths and public spaces along the brook, to increase its use.

The idea was previously flagged for a possible overhaul of a major stretch of Stafford.

“Improving the brook itself is such a massive asset to me as a business owner,” Goldie Espresso owner Morgan Elliott said.

“It creates this beautiful sense of community around us, and we get people outside of the local area coming in and enjoying it on the weekends.

“We start and finish our day there, so making it purpose-fit is just great.”

Public consultation will run until September 6. Residents can fill out an online survey, or attend one of nine engagement kiosks along the brook.
