Three men have been arrested for allegedly abducting and gang-raping a 30-year-old tribal woman from West Bengal in Karnataka's Mysuru district, police said on Tuesday. The woman was allegedly taken from near a private bus stand in T Narasipura, assaulted at a lodge near Mooguru village, robbed of cash and two mobile phones, and later abandoned near her home.
The accused have been identified as Kiran, Kishore and Ryan, all residents of T Narasipura. An FIR was registered on July 19, and police said the alleged offences took place on the intervening night of July 18 and 19. The case has been booked against the three men and an investigation is under way.
According to the FIR, the woman had travelled to Mysuru city to attend a friend's birthday celebration and was returning to T Narasipura by private bus. Near the bus stand, the driver of a grey-coloured car allegedly showed her a piece of paper and asked for an address. As it was written in Kannada, she said she could not read it. The complaint said two men sitting in the rear then opened the car door and forcibly pulled her inside.
The FIR said the accused drove her towards Mooguru village through the Gunja Narasimhaswamy Temple road and threatened to kill her if she spoke or raised an alarm. The complaint alleged that they repeatedly stopped the vehicle near different hotels to prevent her from identifying the lodge where they eventually took her. Police said the three men then took her to a room at an unidentified lodge near Mooguru village, assaulted her and raped her one after another.
The accused allegedly then threatened to kill her unless she handed over money, and took Rs 5,000 in cash and two mobile phones. Police said the woman told them there was Rs 1 lakh at her house and persuaded them to take her there. According to the FIR, the men dropped her near her residence in the early hours of July 19.
Police said she alerted her landlord, who informed them, but the accused fled in the car after noticing a police vehicle approaching. She was first taken to the T Narasipura Police Station and later to an integrated care centre at KR Hospital in Mysuru, where her statement was recorded.
Police said the woman was allegedly abducted, sexually assaulted, robbed and left near her residence before the three accused were arrested. The FIR details the sequence from the alleged abduction near the bus stand to her statement being recorded at the hospital, and police are continuing their investigation.
