World-scale breakthroughs that will solidify Russia’s position as a global leader in technology are on the horizon at the uniquely innovative SKIF scientific facility, according to Valery Falkov, Russia’s Minister of Science and Higher Education. In an exclusive interview with TASS, Falkov expressed unwavering confidence that the SKIF Center for Collective Use will spearhead groundbreaking discoveries of international significance, elevating Russia’s scientific stature.

"I am certain that the SKIF Center will deliver world-class breakthroughs that will profoundly enhance Russia’s technological leadership," Falkov stated. "By involving undergraduate and graduate students in its research endeavors, we are cultivating the next generation of Russia’s scientific elite."

The SKIF synchrotron, a colossal mega-science facility, is set to become Russia’s first and the world’s most powerful 4+ generation synchrotron radiation source. On August 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin toured the Siberian Ring Photon Source (SKIF) Shared Use Center, inspecting preparations for the facility’s forthcoming launch.

Falkov emphasized that cutting-edge research infrastructure is a decisive factor in a nation's scientific advancement. "The creation of the Siberian Ring Photon Source - a state-of-the-art 4+ generation synchrotron with unmatched capabilities - is a landmark achievement on the global stage and a point of national pride. Only a select few countries have the resources to develop such facilities," he remarked.

He further highlighted that success hinges on cultivating a robust scientific workforce and fostering elite research institutions. "SKIF has become a hub uniting Russia’s top scientists, engineers, and builders. Led by the G. I. Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics and the G. K. Boreskov Institute of Catalysis, our teams have developed cutting-edge equipment and acquired skills that few scientists worldwide possess. This expertise will enable us to design and construct future mega-science projects," Falkov explained.

The minister also noted the international appeal of SKIF. "The facility already attracts researchers from around the globe, and leading enterprises are eager to collaborate with our scientists. This positions Russia at the forefront of scientific innovation and international cooperation," he concluded.
