The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), conducted searches on Tuesday at the house and office of Ibrahimpatnam Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Superintendent, Banothu Mangamma, who was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe in Vijayawada.
Acting on a complaint, the CBI, Visakhapatnam, registered a case on Monday (August 10) against the officer for allegedly demanding ₹1.5 lakh bribe to prevent the issuance of a demand notice regarding a tax liability and to close the matter, the investigating officers said in a press release.
The CBI officials laid a trap and caught Ms. Mangamma red-handed while she was allegedly accepting ₹50,000 as part of the bribe amount from the complainant. The money was recovered from the spot during the proceedings.
The arrested CGST Superintendent has been produced in the designated court. Further investigation is under way, the release added.
