Check your fridges and freezers: Nearly 30,000 pounds of raw beef products are being recalled in two U.S. states.
Florida-based meat supplier Corte Argentino USA is recalling about 29,628 pounds of raw beef products after they were imported from Argentina “without the benefit of import resinspection into the United States,” the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Friday.
Typically, after shipments are met by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service at the border, the products are checked for documentation, labeling, packaging, condition and sometimes sampled for contamination.
However, the raw beef skipped the reinspection and were sent straight to distributors and retailers in Florida and Texas. The issue was discovered during routine FSIS inspections.
The items that were not reinspected were produced between May 15 and May 20. Their use-by or freeze-by dates are between September 15 and September 20.
Handled in various weights of cardboard boxes containing boneless beef from Frigorlfico Gorina SAIC, the following products are recalled:
- Top Sirloin Butt (Cuadril Sin Tapa)
- Eye Round (Peceto)
- Topside Cap Off (Nalga AD S/Tapa)
- Flat (Carnaza Cuadrada)
- Knuckle (Bola de Lomo)
The products have an Argentinian establishment number EST. N° OF. 2025 and bear the shipping mark 26644-AA.
FSIS warned that the product may be in buyers’ refrigerators and freezers.
Customers who have the products are urged not to eat them and instead, to throw the box away or return to where it was bought. Anyone concerned about a possible illness or injury should contact a doctor.
No illnesses due to the consumption of the affected products have been reported so far. The Independent has reached out to Corte Argentino for further comment.
This is the second major meat recall in months due to products not being checked while entering the U.S.
Last month, more than 12,000 pounds of bacon were recalled after being imported from Canada without inspection upon arrival into the U.S., the FSIS announced.
Maple Leaf Foods, Inc., located in Lisle, Illinois, issued the voluntarily recall of 12,036 pounds of not-ready-to-eat smoked bacon product after selling the items to several grocery stores and distributors in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
All of the products were labeled with the Canadian establishment number EST 1 on the side and the health certificate number 2026-S732971612 on the master case boxes.
