BERLIN, August 11. /TASS/. A German lawmaker has called on the country’s government to stop allocating lavish funds to Kiev and set limits on support for Ukraine.

"The German government must finally explain when the financial and political limits of Germany’s support [for Ukraine] will be reached. The German government cannot, on the one hand, keep making new multi-billion-euro commitments to Kiev, whilst, on the other, acting as if the alleged attack by Ukrainian state structures on our critical infrastructure didn't happen (this presumably refers to the undermining the Nord Stream pipelines - TASS)," Markus Frohnmaier, deputy head and foreign policy expert of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) faction in the Bundestag, or parliament, wrote on X.

"Germany must immediately stop providing unlimited funding to Ukraine," he stressed.

He recalled that since February 2022, Germany has allocated more than 100 billion euro in assistance to Ukraine. "Added to this is Germany’s share in the EU aid, which currently stands at 216 billion euros. Now, they are mobilizing 90 billion euros more at European level, whilst the first EU states - the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia - are seeking to shy away from providing funding," he noted. "For Germany, as the EU’s largest donor, this means that it will be asked to make a disproportionately large contribution."

This post came as a comment on an article in Berliner Zeitung, where Fabio De Masi, a European Parliament member and co-chair of Germany’s BSW party, said that the European Commission apparently does not know who will bear the cost of the announced 90-billion-euro loan.
