A coordinated search operation involving a specialised scuba diving team is underway to locate a 23-year-old youth who went missing after a country boat capsized in the Chaliyar river near Mavoor around 12.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The police have identified the missing youth as Basil, a resident of Mavoor.

According to police sources, the incident occurred near Poolakkode when a three-member group was engaged in fishing. The small country-made boat lost balance and overturned at a dangerous stretch of the river. While two others managed to swim to safety on the riverbank, Basil was found missing.

Although local residents initiated immediate rescue efforts after the accident, their attempts to trace the missing youth proved futile due to poor visibility and deep waters. Following their emergeny call, the Fire and Rescue Services were subsequently pressed into service.
