The Kadapa district police have apprehended two government employees on suspension for their alleged involvement in a job scam involving ₹3.80 crore.

Syed Mastan Valli, a Junior Assistant from Badvel, and Chilumaru Srinivasulu Reddy, a Senior Assistant from Kamalapura, both currently on suspension, were arrested by the Kadapa One Town police on Wednesday for allegedly using their prior work experience at the Zilla Praja Parishad (ZPP) office to lure 25 unemployed persons with fake compassionate appointment letters.

It was way back in 2018 that the two had promised government jobs under G.O. No.1005 to some unemployed youth, collecting ₹10-15 lakh from each of them and paying nearly ₹2 crore towards bribe. The two allegedly resorted to ‘fabricating’ proceedings and appointment letters by forging the signature of Zilla Praja Parishad officials, including the former Administrative Officer, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Executive Officer, in addition to faking their official seals.

“With these fake appointment orders, the 25 victims managed to join various government offices as office subordinates and security guards, drawing monthly salaries and allowances without anyone noticing the illegal appointment,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Nachiket Vishwanath Shelke said at a media conference here on Wednesday.

The scam ultimately saw light when the ZPP CEO C. Subrahmanyam conducted an internal scrutiny of the compassionate appointment seniority list, and when the discrepancies surfaced subsequently, he lodged a complaint with the police.

Kadapa One Town Police registered a case under Crime No.101/2026 and primarily found the loss to the State exchequer to the tune of ₹3.80 crore.
