A Civil Surgeon Specialist, who was a resident of Indukurpet mandal in Nellore district, has been facing allegations of obtaining a false Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate around 40 years ago and rising to such a senior position using SC reservations. Upon enquiry, no record was reportedly found indicating that he belongs to the SC community, but rather to the Backward Caste (BC-A).

A case was filed by Peta Chiranjeevi and Peta Vamsidhar in the Andhra Pradesh High Court in July 2022 against Peta Chandrasekhar, who is presently working as Civil Surgeon Specialist (Paediatrician) and in-charge District Coordinator of Hospital Services (DCHS) at Rayachoti Area Hospital in Annamayya district.

As per the Court orders, Nellore Rural Tahsildar conducted an enquiry and ascertained that he belongs to BC-A Jangama community, based on the information given by the villagers of the Kanuparthipadu village. No record was reportedly found indicating that he obtained an SC Beda Jangam community certificate from the then Tahsildar.

Nellore District Collector also reported to Deputy Chief Secretary to Government, Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department, Vijayawada, that Mr. Chandrasekhar had already filed a writ petition in the A.P. High Court along with 131 others seeking SC status to Beda, Budaga Jangama community, and the case was still pending.

“The caste of the Civil Surgeon will be decided only after outcome of the judgement in the writ petition,” Annamayya District Collector Nishant Kumar said in a letter written to A.P. High Court Government Pleader for Social Welfare. He requested to place these facts before the High Court for passing suitable orders in the case.
